Who's there? (Open!)
Note: This thread takes place on Sunday 5th June
This island was almost a dream come true for Richard. True, he didn't own his own land anymore, but, he didn't really want to. Freed from the shackles of land ownership, and with a much better, captive market to sell his produce to, it wasn't at all likely he'd go under again. The economy of the mainland wasn't going to affect him again, there was no way his buyers would go elsewhere when his farm was the island's main source of food. He wasn't planning to rip anyone off though, he doubted he could if he wanted to, not on an island controlled by a corporation like this one was. Still, with the financial side of things out of the way, he could focus on the aspects of the work he enjoyed the most.
A farm populated entirely by rescued animals was never going to work commercially, he knew that, and as much as he wanted to try, he had a whole island to supply. That didn't mean he couldn't take in the odd one or two though, once he was properly established anyway. His farm wasn't going to be the animal equivalent of the institute, as amusing as that might be, but a rescued goat or two? that was perfectly fine, and it'd give the kids he'd been told he would be employing somethign to look after without them getting in the way too much while he and the full time staff actually did the real work around here. Really, the only downside he could find with this place was the lack of peace, but he'd manage. It wasn't as though he had to socialise with these people after all.
That was the plan anyway, but something told him it wouldn't be that simple. He'd never lived anywhere quite like this island before, predictably, and didn't really know what to expect. Knowing his luck, there was probably going to be someone in the barn when he got there, from what he understood, some of the patients were allowed out during the day, even more at the weekends. Who knew what he'd find today? Shaking his head a little, he stepped into the barn and moved towards the feed stores, he stopped as he heard a noise. "Who's there?" he called, looking around, a small frown crossing his face. There was every chance it was nothing, but it was always just as likely that there were kids in here. He didn't know which he'd prefer.
