I am moderately allergic to bird dander. This was discovered when I was seven and my parents bought me a Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo for my birthday. Within an hour of contact with the bird I presented with very itchy and watery eyes, and about half an hour later my breathing started to become slightly restricted. It is not a life threatening allergy, just exceptionally uncomfortable.

I do not smoke tobacco, and I only consume alcohol in the evenings on my days off when it will not affect my work schedule in any way. I will admit that until a drugs screening at my current place of employment I did use a variety of street drugs on a moderately frequent basis. These drugs included heroin, cocaine, LSD, valium, marijuana, ecstasy, PCP and ketamine. Not all at once, obviously. That would have been excessive. I was not addicted, just a frequent user as an aid to relax and unwind, and when the request was made to stop I was able to without any undue physical or mental distress. I have been completely clean since without problem or difficulty.

To begin with I have a 1st grade degree in library management from Cambridge university in England, and this is backed up by several years experience working in several different libraries in the UK. I am very much a perfectionist and like everything to be in its place, meaning I keep the library I am working in extremely organized and running to a high standard. Having spent nine months working as head librarian at the Hadley Institute, I am able to understand and empathise with the type of resident that will be present on Green Ridge. I have experience with the type of problems many of them will be facing and feel that my knowledge of such issues as these would be of some use to you. I am also mostly fluent in French, Spanish, Italian and German. My Greek and Russian are shaky, but coming along with time.

How do you feel your previous employment will benefit your ability to perform in the position(s) for which you are applying?:
I have always been able to empathise fully with individuals suffering from psychological ailments, having had much experience with them throughout my life, but working at the Hadley Institute has allowed me to be able to understand how the mind works even more. I understand what the patients and residents of Green Ridge are going through, and by running the library in a place such as Hadley I know how I can best help them.

When I was sixteen a 'friend' at the time introduced me to the wonders of heroin. I am not ashamed to admit I was something of a rebellious teenager, and with a part time job and no rent or bills I had money to burn. Or to spend on certain items to make the parties more entertaining. I became addicted to opium and heroin but also experimented occasionally with cocaine, PCP and LSD. I tried marijuana and mushrooms but they were never to my liking. This carried on throughout my college career and intensified as I went on to university. I never had a problem with the subject, all of my assignments and examinations scored in the high 90s, but thanks to a three week bender I completely failed my second year and had to retake all of the modules. This was of course a huge wake up call and made me realise I was quite literally shooting my life away. I signed myself onto a rehabilitation programme. It was immensely difficult, but a year later I was completely clean and able to complete my university course. I was then clean for a very long time, but certain incidents last year caused me to fall back into old habits. Thankfully I got another wake up call, and I am now completely clean again.

When I was in university I was arrested twice for possession of a controlled substance. I shall not go into detail here, since I believe answers to other questions have summed it up well. I was nineteen the first time, twenty two the second.

My current home and place of employment is being closed down, and I believe that I could settle in well in a place such as Green Ridge. I am familiar with many of the staff and students that are relocating from the Hadley Institute to your island, and I wish to be able to carry on my work. n

Green Ridge Island houses a psychiatric rehabilitation hospital, and as such, living and working amongst those with mental health issues would be typical practice. Are you comfortable with this?:
